A fragrance for those whose gods were renamed demons and whose sacred places were buried beneath churches.
They called Lithuania the last pagan country in Europe to accept Christianity. “Accept”, as though the cross arrived politely. As though it did not come with soldiers, fire and steel. Our forests were cut down, our sacred serpents dragged from beneath the hearth, and everything ancient, living and unwilling to kneel was given one name:
Satan.
Then the cathedral appears.
Cold stone exhales beneath your feet. Frankincense smothers the air, thick and solemn, curling around blackened wood, sacred resins and candles that have been burning for centuries. The silence is enormous. The kind of silence built to make a human being feel small.
Then the blood arrives.
Not fresh. Not metallic. This is blood remembered by stone, the blood of nameless hands that built monuments they would never be allowed to claim. Wax melts slowly over the altar. Myrrh darkens. Smoke crawls toward the ceiling like a soul trying to escape.
“Paint Their Skies With Blood” smells like entering an abandoned cathedral after God has already left. Ancient incense clings to the walls. Melted church wax trembles in the darkness. Damp stone, charred sacred wood and bitter resin remain beneath everything, carrying a sorrow so old it has stopped asking to be understood.
It is the saddest fragrance we have ever created.
But it does not enter the church to worship.
It enters to reclaim what was taken.
Cold stone for the conquered. Incense for the nameless. Blood for the skies that once belonged to us.
